I thought I’d talk about DC’s new 52
I follow comics for the art. I don’t know a lot of the less famous characters and their back stories. I really don’t care that Oracle is out of her chair, or that Waller looks like a model. I’m just glad I can now jump in and follow.
In short, I think I’m squarely in DC’s target audience.
Some opinions:
[Justice League]
I like the contrast between Batman and Green Lantern’s attitudes. Using these two was a great starting point, especially because Jim Lee draws them so well. This was the moment of the book for me:
And wow, that Superman shot at the end!
Looking back at the cover, I really thought they would have changed Aquaman’s costume. He’s supposed to come across as a bad ass in this reboot, but the orange scales really kill it. You know who was (sort of) a bad ass? Emperor Aquaman.
And that Finch alternate was horrible.
[Swamp Thing]
I have no background Swamp Thing other than Brightest Day (where I was like, “meh”) so I don’t really know much about the character, even after reading this first issue. The art was ok I guess, but wtf is this Superman face:

[Batwoman]
Fantastic art. Wow, wow, wow. Well worth the loooong wait. She may be my favorite character at the moment. Definitely my favorite book of the ones out so far.
[OMAC]
I might be in the minority here, but I’m not a fan of the Jack Kirby style. I don’t care for the story either. The coloring, on the other hand, was pretty cool.
[Action Comics]
I really like this new Superman. De-powered, but not afraid to throw the bad guys into walls. The glowing eyes are really awesome.
[Green Lantern]
Wow, I love this twist. I wish they’d keep Sinestro as a GL for a while.
[Demon Knights]
Medieval setting! I really enjoyed this one, despite not knowing a single thing about any of the characters.
